Blue John stone is a rare, semi-precious mineral fluorite, found only at one location in the world, Treak Cliff Cavern, at the Western end of Hope Valley, near Castleton in Derbyshire, England. The name Blue John derives from the French Bleu Jaune, meaning Blue John. It was first discovered by miners exploring the cavern for lead.
Whitby Jet is fossilised driftwood, discovered in Yorkshire in England.?In the Victorian era jet was mined both inland and along?the coast. Jet is no longer mined and all our jet is found through natural coastal erosion. Whitby jet is famed for is deep and intense black colour and the lustrous shine.?
